So for reasons that we won't go into at the moment, none of the Elders in our flat bought food for last week. So after some quick prayers, this is how the week went
Monday night (8:30):
*Car pulls up next to Elder Bohne and Elder Zimmerman*
"Hey, I'm a less-active that just moved in. Do you guys want food?"
"umm..."
"Here's two family feasts from McDonalds" (8 big mac meals)
Tuesday night (6:30):
*phone rings*
"Hey, we have a bunch of sanwiches left over. Do you want some?"
"umm..."
*end up with sandwiches, 6 takeaway containers of pasta, and meat pies*
Wednesday night:
*less-active family who has yelled at missionaries for the past 3 years*
"Hey, do you want food? We really want to kick-start our spirituality."
"umm..."
"the only thing is that we're Vegan."
*give us pretty decent lasagna*
Thursday (during the day):
*Carol, our less-active crazy lady*
"I haven't seen you guys in a while. Let's go out for Lunch."
*we get chinese*
*also, a member feeds us soup, peaches, biscuits, and chocolate in her super expensive house (see pictures)*
Friday night:
*investigator family who randomly showed up at church the last week has us over for dinner*
"Do you like islander feeds?"
"umm..."
"Great! we'll drop some food off on Sunday! and take this food home while you're at it!"
*the other elders come home with food from somewhere*
Saturday:
Leftovers
Sunday:
*investigator family from Friday roasted a (whole) pig that night*
"Oh, I didn't know there were 4 of you living here, otherwise I would have brought more!"
"It's all good, we have some food inside"
*fridge is packed with food*
It has been so cool to see God answer our prayers. And for some reason, it has been this transfer/these past few weeks more than ever before. When Elder Smith and I came in together, we had 1 name to work with in the records. Yesterday, we had probably 15 people in our Gospel Principles class. We can almost completely fill our days with appointments, which is a good place to be. The work in this area has just exploded. Luckily for us, we just found out what we get to stay together another transfer.
So, in short, the work is good.
The only downside is that Elder Smith and I don't really have a p-day. We were able to squeeze out 2 hours to email, but the rest of our day is packed. We had somebody call us this morning with a referral. This non-member Samoan family wanted priesthood blessings. We just got back from meeting with them, and it went pretty well. In addition to that, we have a couple members who insist on us doing service on our p-day. haha it's not worth fighting (but still pretty frustrating). We'll probably just get approval to take a half p-day tomorrow.
I'm excited to watch General Conference next week (we get a week later). I've heard lots of whispers about everything, and it sounds like a good one. General Conference is like Christmas for missionaries. (Minus the phone call home) We also had daylight savings time end in Australia. An unexpected benefit of visa waiting then serving down under--I got an extra hour of sleep once in LA, then again here in Australia. Perfect timing.
That's about it from this week.
