Hot Sauce of Death- July 22, 2018

Happy Birthday to Mom! And to Sadie on Thursday! Hope all of your birthday wishes come true!

So because of the missions combining, as well as the unique situation with our mission president, the first presidency is highly involved with how our mission operates. From what we've heard, president runia has been on the phone with them quite a bit in the last few weeks. Because we officially have the largest mission in the world (# of missionaries), the direction from them is to not shy away from sending missionaries home. The olive tree that is our mission is getting pruned soon. In some ways it's good, but is always sad to see people go home early.

Interesting fact about Australia: there's no really spicy food here. The Chinese places are by far the most spicy. Anyway, we went to a members house last night and he got out this hot sauce that says "Poppy's Inferno: use with extreme caution." Intrigued by the label, my companion and I tried some. Needless to say, it was pretty mild. After seeing us handle poppy's weak sauce with ease, our host got out his secret mix, which proved to be "brewed by a dragon from the depths of heck" (*mostly* his words ;)

Last Pday, I discovered the photo editing capabilities of our new phones and photoshopped myself into Elder Raab's girlfriend's graduation photos. I thought it was hilarious, but Elder Raab was somewhat less amused. Haha

We're getting evicted on the 26th and we still don't have a place to stay haha

Spiritual Experience: we finally got into the home of a less-active member who has been avoiding missionaries for a while. It turns out he has been looking into anti Mormon literature (suprise). He and his wife would really like to come to church, but doesn't want to be hypocritical. I kind of threw down the gauntlet and told him we would answer all of his questions in weekly meetings starting next Saturday. So this entire week is going to be me compiling scriptures and articles for our discussion on Saturday. hahaha study with a purpose, right?

That's about all from this week!
Ofa Atu!
Elder Nelson

Porter asked that I forward his e-mails.

On a sad note, Porter's flatmate from his last area, Elder Zimmerman suffered from a fall yesterday (their Monday). He had become the Zone leader after Porter was transferred.
Porter's e-mail was written before he heard about the accident.

President Runia has a huge load right now. Porter said in his last e-mail " We got to meet President Runia for the first time! He's super awesome! An interesting story about him: Through High School, President Runia was a pretty good basketball player. When he graduated, he was faced with the choice to either go on a mission or stay and play basketball. One morning, Legrand Richards (of the twelve) and a member of the presidency of the seventy showed up to his house. They came inside and told him that they were on assignment from President Spencer W. Kimball to tell him that instead of going on a mission, he should stay and play 4 years of basketball for BYU, which he did. President Runia said that for the last 40 years, the only calling he has ever wanted was to be a missionary. Pretty inspiring story."   As you read below, please consider praying for him too.
